I don’t think Catholicism in South America is that Christocentric, compared to the U.S
Not having lived in South America, I cannot speak to the health of the Church across a whole continent! But I suspect that it’s merely more self-conscious in the U.S., owing to Catholics being a religious minority in a relatively hostile culture.
